Abstract/Summary:
Tissue inhibitor of metalloproteinases (TIMP) inhibits the neutral metalloproteinases, collagenase, gelatinase, and stromelysin, which are involved in extracellular matrix (ECM) remodelling. The expression pattern of TIMP was determined in the developing mouse embryo using in situ hybridization analysis. Localized TIMP expression was detected starting at 13.5 days of gestation and onward throughout development in tissues undergoing osteogenesis such as the mandible, ribs, calvaria, vertebrae, and long bones. The localization of TIMP RNA to osteogenic tissue is similar to that of TGF-...
