Abstract/Summary:
Three experimental studies were performed in order to obtain information concerning the formation, reactivity, and solvation phenomena of gas phase clusters. In addition, a new molecular beam-time of flight apparatus was assembled for cluster studies.;Experiments were undertaken to establish the role of dimers in large cluster formation. The distribution of clusters obtained from different source conditions were found to be similar when the concentration of dimers was maintained according to a simple equation involving the stagnation pressure and temperature and the heat of dimerization.
