| We report new photoelectric surface brightness measurements of three reflection nebulae: IC 5076, NGC 1432, and the nebulosity illuminated by 17 Tauri. These observations have been corrected for instrumentally scattered light and for variable sky background contamination. Similar observations of a fourth nebula Cederblad 201, taken from the recent literature, are also discussed. Techniques for modelling the surface brightness distributions of nebulae are discussed, including two new models for the nebula IC 5076. Using relatively well-known grain properties at visible wavelengths, we investigate the geometry of each object. Having derived possible geometries, we investigate the properties of ultraviolet brightness distributions for each object. Some comment concerning fruitful avenues for future research on reflection nebulae are offered. |
