Managers' and members' perceptions of motivations for joining sport centers in Tae Jon City, Republic of Korea

Abstract/Summary:
As sport participation has increased in importance in the Republic of Korea, sport club managers have been called on to develop programming which satisfies diverse consumer groups. This research was conducted to determine examine the differences between the perceptions of managers and the perceptions of members regarding the motivations for joining sport centers in the Republic of Korea.;Survey research was conducted with 900 members and 300 managers randomly selected. A return rate of 83.5% was achieved (N = 1002). Statistical analysis was performed using the SPSS-Window statistical package. Descriptive statistics, Chi-square statistics, and non-parametric correlation statistics were used to analyze the responses.;The findings showed a mixture of motivations was evident. Managers and members differed to a statistically significant degree on almost all motivation variables. In general members viewed more motivations and more diverse motivations as important than did managers, while managers viewed a small number of motivations as important. Managers did not perceived motivations of members accurately, according to the members' own views.
