Abstract/Summary:
Organizations today are team oriented, yet the discipline of each individual team member is not understood as relates to the decision-making process. Repeatedly organizations have placed individuals with the same and/or similar disciplines together, yielding limited alternatives in project scope and in many cases the team's decisions mirror the sameness of the group. The discipline of each member based on learning, skill-sets and education has a discourse that is specific to that knowledge.; The researcher studied the effect of discipline and its impact on each individual's decision-making process. During the research, the same task was given to two teams, a same discipline team, and a multidiscipline team. The research was seen through the lens of Cognitive Work Analysis (CWA). CWA was used to deconstruct, discern and identify the findings of this research.; The five chapters of this document include the development, process and results of the research. What was learned from the research was that discipline had impact on the decision-making process. The multidisciplinary team was observed to identify and grapple with more aspects of the data during the decision-making process than that of the same discipline team, largely due to the diversity of its team members. Evidence of discipline was observed to be a factor as to how data was reviewed, discussed, selected and used within the decision-making process.
