| This dissertation uses data envelopment analysis (DEA), a well-known nonparametric technique applicable to the analysis of the efficiency of multiple input - output decision making units, to analyze the relative technical efficiency of a sample of hospitals in California. The technique does not assume any functional form for the production function; instead, it constructs the best practice frontier from the observed data. The results suggest that for the hospitals studied, internal organization matters, and that type of education curriculum of administrators is not statistically significant. |
