Abstract/Summary:
In this dissertation, we analyzed the properties and extended the capabilities of Fourier domain volume rendering, in which line integral planar projections of spatial volume data are generated using the Fourier Projection-slice theorem. The theoretical and practical implementation issues dealing with the discrete frequency domain reconstruction and re-sampling required to extract a 2D plane passing through the origin of the spectrum were examined and schema developed to allow for fast, flexible, and feature-rich renderings. A frequency domain method for spatial volume clipping methodology and novel approach for performing spatial thresholding entirely in the frequency domain utilizing an extension into 4D hyperspace were developed and implemented.
