Abstract/Summary:
For successful message recovery, Direct Sequence Spread Spectrum (DS/SS) requires that the PN code of the received signal and that is used by the receiver be synchronized. Conventional search schemes are mostly based on the usage of a sequential search of the input signal PN code phase with an alignment detector declaring achievement of synchronization. Other methods use parallel structures to simultaneously explore different PN code offsets for possible alignments. Hybrid architectures of the sequential and parallel search have also been used. Two novel PN acquisition algorithms are presented in this work. Both are based on obtaining the PN phase offset by using a binary search strategy. In addition to having a local copy of the PN sequence, an additional sequence, called the auxiliary sequence, is used in the binary search procedures.
