Abstract/Summary:
combined laboratory and field measurement study was carried out to investigate the importance of the role of halogens in the chemistry of the troposphere. Laboratory studies included studies of kinetics of Cl- and Br-atom reactions with atmospherically interesting hydrocarbons at ambient and subambient temperatures in both air and N;A self-consistent set of kinetic data for 30 Cl-atom and Br-atom reactions required to interpret the chemistry of the troposphere, was determined. Moreover, mechanisms of 10 chemical systems were proposed. A simple numerical method was developed to predict the Cl-atom rate constants of normal, iso- and unstrained cycloalkanes. As a result of studies of the Cl + benzene, evidence for an HO-formation channel from the dissociation of CH;Several ozone depletion events and concurrent hydrocarbon decays were observed during PSE 94 and 95. Kinetic analysis of hydrocarbons provided evidence for the occurrence of Cl-atom and Br-atom reaction with hydrocarbons. During a long ozone depletion period (t...
