In this study, the author explored the Stanford Achievement Test-9 and the effect that parental involvement in the school has on the scores obtained by students. The study was conducted in selected public schools in the Birmingham, Alabama area. The schools were asked to (a) identify the extent of parental involvement (participation) in the education of their children; (b) determine whether there is a significant relationship among students' Normal Curve Equivalent scores on the Stanford Achievement Test-9 at the student grade levels; and (c) determine whether there are significant differences between the perception of teachers and the perceptions of parents concerning the amount of parental involvement for fourth, sixth, and ninth grade students.;The study revealed that parental involvement is an important part of the total effort to educate their children. It is one key to improved student performance and better schools. With the urgency of educational reform that is sweeping across our country, it is important that all of the various constituents of the educational process come together in partnership for the collective goal of accomplishing academic excellence for our schools.
