| The original goal of this research was to identify the revenue, cost and performance measure categories, subcategories and definitions that need to be considered in designing, developing, implementing and evaluating online distance education program investments to build online distance education theory. The literature revealed contextual issues at work in the University environment that would lend insights into subjective influences affecting the success of such investments. Therefore, an integral part of the study focused on analyzing contextual themes and patterns of online programming implementation. The refined goal of the research was therefore, to answer the prioritized research questions: What are the revenue, cost and performance measure categories, subcategories and intrinsic definitions that need to be considered in designing, developing, implementing and evaluating online distance education programs to build online distance education theory? and What are the institutional contexts and program characteristics influencing revenue, cost and performance measure categories, subcategories and their definitions that need to be considered in designing, developing, implementing and evaluating online Master's Degree programs in Engineering? The benchmark information presented was derived from selected online education programs at public, Doctoral/Research-Extensive Universities having characteristics that suggested successful programming investments or potential. |
