The purpose of the Action research study is to implement a process for improving communication among faculty in a two-year associate degree respiratory therapy program. For the past several years, there has been a decline in the level of communication among program faculty. Effective communication is an important component in sustaining faculty and student relationships. This Action research (AR) study used the 4D's of Appreciative Inquiry to obtain qualitative data. The study participants included full time faculty and students enrolled in the respiratory therapy program. Data collected consisted of interviews, meeting minutes, and observations. The results included plans for the implementation of new structured faculty meetings, town hall meetings between faculty and students and the creation of a faculty-student focus group. The Appreciative Inquiry process worked to improve communication in this health science program.
