Abstract/Summary:
The purpose of this study was: (a) to identify the principal's Change Facilitator Style (Responder, Manager, or Initiator) as determined by the perceptions of the instructional staff using the Change Facilitator Style Questionnaire (CFSQ) (Hall & George, 1999), (b) to develop the resulting profile for each principal in the North Learning Community (NLC) of Orange County Public Schools, (c) to examine the extent to which the Change Facilitator Style (CFS) differed among principals using the following variables: the socio-economic level of the school, selected demographic characteristics of the principal, and selected demographics of the instructional staff of the school, and (d) to identify the change facilitator behaviors of the principals as identified on each of the six scales and three clusters of the CFSQ and examine the range of behavioral differences among each style.; Data that was gathered from the instructional staff of the schools using the CFSQ and obtained from NLC staff was made available to the researcher and used to determine the styles of the principals (Manager, 76%; Initiator, 18%; and Responder, 6%). Additional data were obtained through archival district records pertaining to the school demographics and the personal demographics of the principals and instructional staffs.; Associated behavior patterns within the three Change Facilitator Styles (CFS) were examined. Manager principal behaviors varied widely on the six scales and three clusters of the CFS as a result of the wide range in the CLF values among them. Initiator and Responder principals were closely aligned with the stereotypical behaviors associated with their styles. No associated patterns associated with the CFS of the principal were determined regarding personal demographics of the principal or the instructional staff or school demographics.; Implications for future practice and recommendations for further study beyond the targeted district were made.
