After a brief discussion of the Standard Model of particle physics and its shortcomings, I will focus on a particular idea on physics beyond the Standard Model, namely, the idea that there might be extra spatial dimensions besides the four dimensions that we see. I will show how fruitful this idea is by going through various applications, such as grand unification, flavor physics, the origin of electroweak symmetry breaking, and supersymmetry breaking, in extra dimensions of various sizes and geometries, and investigate phenomenological implications. |
