Abstract/Summary:
A new competitive environment within commodity depots has been created by the Department of Defense (DoD) through budget cuts, downsizing, consolidations, base closures, privatization, and bid policies. As a result of this new environment, an increased emphasis on "higher quality" products with "reduced" cycle time at a "lower" cost has magnified the importance of efficient production operations and the Industrial Engineer's role in support of these operations.;This internship document is one of the final requirements in achieving the Doctor of Engineering degree. The author of this report spent twelve months as an intern, in the field of Industrial Engineering, with Corpus Christi Army Depot (CCAD) in Corpus Christi, Texas. In summary, the engineering internship experience at Corpus Christi Army Depot included eleven broad-based assignments consisting of quality engineering, reliability engineering, maintainability engineering, production engineering, and business planning. Overall, the above experiences contributed significantly to the objectives of the Doctor of Engineering internship and provided the author with an opportunity to develop a wide range of knowledge, both technical and nontechnical.;All studies and initiatives described in this report were performed for the Directorates of Engine Production, Components Production, Engineering Services, and the CCAD Commander. The studies and initiatives were part of the Industrial Engineering Division's business plan for fiscal year 1995 and fit with the industrial engineering key result areas of production process design, special engineering projects, and customer technical support. Note, this document contains business sensitive material and is not to be divulged to anyone, government or private, without written authorization from Corpus Christi Army Depot and the Industrial Engineering Division.
