Abstract/Summary:
The purpose of this program is to offer computer assistance to the family therapist who is treating aggressive adolescents and their abused parents. It offers 24 hour stop-gap supervision and case consultation by "walking" the therapist through the case. It can also function as a teaching tool offering guidelines to any therapist who encounters this difficult problem.;The program contains descriptions of six levels of aggressive adolescent behaviors, ranging from mild to violent with choices of interventional strategies to lessen/erase them. A contextual essay accompanies this disk in computer assisted learning.;The program opens with instructions as to its use. It is then organized by means of flow-charts linked together through the use of the Hypercard 2.2 software. These flow-charts are all inter-connected to one another containing: (1) the Main Menu, (2) Textual Material, (3) Levels of Aggression, (4) Strategies, (5) Household Composition, (6) Help with a Specific Case, and (7) a Glossary. One can move straight through or navigate around the program by clicking on buttons, words, symbols, and scrolls to access information.;Case Consultation is available from the Main Menu. The user can obtain Help with a Specific Case by choosing its Level of Aggression and Household Composition. The program will pre-select strategies for that situation. It will guide the user through this approach to modify strategy choices until a successful way is found to remove the presenting problem of aggression.;In using this program, the therapist needs to keep in mind that it is only a stop-gap substitute for supervision. It also functions as a computer aid to enhance one's skills.
