Abstract/Summary:
A sterile fly release program was evaluated for three years in Los Cabos, Mexico. Traps were set and fruits were collected to monitor the changes in population for the duration of the project. Results indicated that continuous sterile fly releases over a three year period, in the absence of pesticides, significantly decreased wild populations of Anastrepha ludens at one site. Trap captures and fruit collection data indicated a seasonality that follows closely the phenology of mango trees. The type of fruit tree, position of the tree, and location of the tree all have an effect on trap catches. The correlation between trap catches and larval fruit infestation is dependent on the site. A management program for use in Los Cabos, Mexico is proposed.
