Abstract/Summary:
Alteration of soil conditions by management practices can significantly affect crop production through influences on depth distribution of soil organic matter (SOM), microbial activity and nutrient dynamics. The quantity of crop residues, and the tillage system used for their introduction into the soil, are factors which affect the fate of C and nutrients. The objectives of this research were to determine long-term changes in soil chemical and physical properties and seasonal dynamics of soil microbial biomass (SMB) and mineralizable C and N in a four-year rotation of corn (Zea mays L.)/cotton (Gossypium hirsutum L.).
