| ADIM is a software package that investigates and designs moment resisting frames for MS-DOS personal computers. There are two versions of ADIM--one for reinforced concrete frames and one for structural steel frames. ADIM focuses on the practical application of structural theory and building codes with regard to "real world" design conditions and constraints. ADIM incorporates some of these conditions and constraints into the design process which gives the engineer some control over the outcome. For steel frames, ADIM determines the section sizes and details the moment connections (i.e. doubler plate, bolts, stiffeners, etc.). For concrete frames, ADIM determines the section sizes and details the reinforcing (i.e. number of bars, stirrup and tie spacing, cut-off locations, etc.). The results can be displayed numerically or graphically (to scale) in sections, connection details, frame elevations, etc. Emphasis is placed on providing enough output, presented in such a way, that you can duplicate the same results using conventional methods--verifying the results if required. ADIM is not intended to replace the senior engineer, but to help him or her search for the ever elusive "most economical" solution in the shortest period of time--increasing productivity. In fact, ADIM cannot produce cost-effective solutions without the aid of an experienced engineer, but it can produce reasonable solutions quickly with minimal assistance. ADIM is in sync with today's economic climate of "doing more with less". ADIM is truly a Computer Aided Design and Drafting (CADD) package. As companies become streamlined to compete in global markets, CADD software is playing an important role in maintaining or improving a high level of productivity at the office. ADIM is that type of software and should be used for that purpose. |
