Abstract/Summary:
In the restructured environment, power systems are often operated close to the edge of instability. In those scenarios, the problem of dynamic security assessment becomes very important. This study proposes techniques to address various aspects of this problem based on a trajectory sensitivity approach. On the one hand, this approach can easily handle complex models such as differential algebraic equations (DAE), discrete event coupled with DAE, and even hybrid systems. On the other hand, this approach suffers from the requirement of additional computation of the sensitivities. Nevertheless, this approach has provided useful techniques in studying power system stability.
