Abstract/Summary:
arious microscopy techniques were used to investigate the microstructure of amorphous-crystalline interfaces in oxide systems. Interaction of MgO and ;Interaction of monticellite liquid with dense, polycrystalline MgO produced a two-phase mixture at the intergranular regions in MgO; crystalline monticellite and a glass enriched in impurities present in the starting MgO. The location and composition of the phases emphasize the role of silicate liquid in snow-plowing the impurities ahead of the crystallizing front. The microstructural changes during the initial stages of the infiltration demonstrated the tendency of the liquid to confine within the grain junctions in bulk MgO.;The wetting behavior of anorthite liquid on crystallographically different surfaces of ;Factors contributing to the stability of crystalline materials was studied by considering a frequently observed interface geometry, namely the ;Crystallization of olivine-based glass silicates on single-crystal MgO produced interesting microstructures.
