Abstract/Summary:
This research aims at studying a model for promoting industrial development that incorporates environmental management into the decision-making process by means of cleaner production. An underlining objective is to explore ways to broaden the cleaner production agenda through movements for social change.; The research is comprised of three independent papers. The first paper provided a more in-depth analysis of the design and implementation of the United Nations National Cleaner Production Centers Program policy component. The second paper analyzed the policy strategies and activities undertook by the National Cleaner Production Centers. The research explored the role of National Cleaner Production Centers as effective promoters of cleaner production policies in developing countries by discussing the achievements of five National Cleaner Production Centers as case studies. Finally, the third paper investigated the role cleaner production centers like the National Cleaner Production Centers play in advancing the cleaner production agenda through a potential collaboration with environmental non-governmental organizations and other movements for social change.
