This dissertation analyzes the cultural and political relationship between the nation-states of South Asia and the South Asian diaspora. Separate chapters examine the production, circulation, and reception of literary texts and films by writers such as Bharati Mukhedee and Mahasweta Devi and filmmakers such as Gurinder Chadha and Deepa Mehta, as well as the consumption of popular Indian films by members of the South Asian diaspora in the United States. |
