Abstract/Summary:
A sample of Z → μ+μ events isolated in 108 ± 4pb−1 of data collected in p¯p collisions at s = 1.8 TeV with the CDF detector at the Fermilab Tevatron is presented. This work focuses on precise simulations of the detector and trigger selections. The total cross-section (σZ→μ+μ) as well as the transverse momentum differential cross-section in this decay channel are measured.; The overall cross-section is σZ→μ+μ = 241 ± 12 pb, which is found to be consistent with recent measurements.; Additionally, the differential cross-section as a function of the transverse momentum of the Z boson is determined. This distribution agrees well with the corresponding distribution in the electron channel. No evidence for physics beyond the standard model is observed.
