Abstract/Summary:
The goal of this study is to examine the use of Servant Inspirational Management Leadership Theory (SIM) as a construct that uses inspiration to extend the concept of servant leadership to deal with the realities of administrative management. To study this theoretical model, I will use it to guide my leadership as I work with special education teachers to affect significant change in relation to the remedial instruction used for learning disabled students, and to facilitate the re-framing of salient issues as they relate to Brick Township Memorial High School's special education department. Mandates from the No Child Left Behind Act (NCLB) (2001) to meet the individual needs or individual education plans (IEP) of special needs students precipitated this change project. I use Bolman and Deal's (2003) re-framing model which is comprised of the political, structural, human resource, and symbolic frames, as a way to help special education teachers understand the change process and to facilitate significant change for the special education department. Servant Inspirational Management Theory is the cornerstone of my leadership, guiding my actions and reflections as I work with teachers. Developing ways to ensure that all special education students' IEPs are met, and facilitating those changes with a theory of servant and inspirational leadership that addresses the ways I lead and manage are important to me, as I want to (1) use my influence to establish a public high school where all children are afforded the very best opportunity for academic and interpersonal success; and (2) use my influence to cultivate a learning organization where there are innovative and widespread patterns of thinking, where staff regularly develop their capacity to create the results they truly desire, and where teachers pursue collective goals, while continuously learning together.
