Abstract/Summary:
Studies may pertain to leadership styles of females, yet fail to explore the factors that influenced female leadership styles. The current study explored the factors that influenced the leadership styles of 20 female Republican political leaders. Seven themes emerged from the study: (1) role models and mentors, (2) childhood development, (3) gender bias, (4) leadership traits, (5) leadership capabilities, (6) self-leadership, and (7) leadership strategies and support systems. Each theme represented factors that influenced the leadership styles of the female political leaders. The study results may inspire females to become political leaders or mentors. Leaders may use the study findings to assess individual leadership behavior. Policy makers may use the study findings to identify ways to curtail gender bias in the media.
