The multi-site church movement is significantly impacting the traditional church model. The multi-site church is an attempt to leverage leadership in a growing church in a way that allows for it to expand in other areas or cities instead of building larger facilities on the existing church site.;This philosophy of ministry launches other locations known as satellite campuses which typically stay under the leadership of the main campus and are not church plants. Each of these satellite campuses function as their own church and provide live worship services but the Sunday sermon is normally a video provided by the main campus.;A key component to this movement is the unique role of the satellite campus pastor. This pastor functions as the leader of the satellite campus. He is responsible to lead and shepherd those who attend his campus but he is not expected to be a teacher of the Bible.;The issue to be addressed in this paper is whether the satellite campus pastor can achieve the biblical expectations of both corporate and personal discipleship for those on his campus in his limited leadership role.;Chapter one will address general hindrances to the accomplishment of discipleship in the church and multi-site church. Chapter two will explore the biblical expectations for corporate and personal discipleship as found in the church at Ephesus. This church was selected because we see its birth in Acts, its maturing in the letter to the Ephesians and then its decline in Revelation. The church at Ephesus provides a model for corporate and personal discipleship for all churches to follow.;The remaining chapters will address specific ways in which the satellite campus pastor can accomplish the important expectation of corporate and personal discipleship in his limited leadership role. Discovering how best to utilize the satellite pastor to assist in the accomplishment of discipleship is essential for the multi-site church to succeed long term. |
