Abstract/Summary:
Eating disorders have traditionally been treated with cognitive-behavioral or interpersonal therapy. However, such treatments have mainly targeted Bulimia Nervosa and Binge Eating Disorder, and they are currently viewed as only moderately effective. Given that Anorexia Nervosa is considered to be the most deadly psychological disorder and has a mortality rate of over 10% for hospitalized patients, it is clear that the development of novel treatments is critical. Research suggests that a number of mindfulness-based treatments have been shown to be effective with eating disordered populations; however, these treatments have been applied only minimally to Anorexia Nervosa. Therefore, it is the researcher's aim to develop a time-limited, mindfulness-based therapeutic program for use in an intensive outpatient setting for adults with Anorexia Nervosa.
