Abstract/Summary:
Diabetes is a prevalent condition one which affects many Americans and is continually on the rise. In providing education to those affected with the condition, the diabetes disease management program's intention is to guide its members towards improving the quality of life while living with their illness. The purpose of the research study was to examine the effectiveness of a diabetes disease management program within a health maintenance organization. A summative evaluation was used to determine if the program has been successful in attaining the objectives that have been identified. Utilizing a quantitative method, the research study examined the effectiveness of the program through a summative program evaluation from an objective-oriented approach. A sample of the participants from diabetes members enrolled in the health maintenance organization's disease management program was obtained to evaluate the effective of the program. The study will add to the research knowledge in addressing health care concerns and these concerns are related to the commitment and quality of care for diabetes members participating in a diabetes disease management program within a health maintenance organization.
