Abstract/Summary:
Two instruments operated at high volumetic flowrate are investigated for sampling of PM2.5, PM10–2.5 and PM>10 .;The performance of single nozzle high flow dichotomous sampler used for sampling the PM2.5 and PM10–2.5 is characterized theoretically and experimentally. Since the role of turbulence dispersion is not clearly known for particle separation, the cutsizes of virtual impactor at different Reynolds number are experimentally obtained and applied to the design of a high flow rate virtual impactor which separates PM2.5 and PM10–2.5. Both realtime and filter based measurements are conducted in a controlled environment and final design is obtained with parametric study of the geometries. For offline chemical analysis of PM 10–2.5, a multi-filter collector are designed and tested to ensure uniform and efficient collection of particles.;A large particle inlet which is designed for sampling PM>10 at 1000 LPM is re-visited due to the mismatch between preliminary experimental results and previous numerical results and non-uniformity of particle distribution at the exit. The geometries of LPI are modified to ensure a uniform particle distribution as well as high sampling efficiency. Field measurements with other PM sampler are also conducted to evaluate the performance of fugitive dust monitor which is composed of LPI and FM-100.
