Abstract/Summary:
The purpose of this qualitative study was to explore the phenomenon of legacy employees transitioning from the client company to the outsourcing supplier film to perform their job function. Existing research reviewed the concept of outsourcing in various forms but there was little research on the outsourcing of legacy employees. The participant pool included 15 study participants who had been outsourced as legacy employees and were at least 18 years old. This qualitative research study presented four research questions on how legacy employees who were transitioned to outsourcing firms perceived and experienced the change in workplace environment. The four research questions focused on the change in job satisfaction, experience of an effective transition, perception of relationships with employees and employers, and the experience of change to the job function. The qualitative interview and design study was used with a written survey and a telephone interview. The data results were captured and uploaded into an Excel spreadsheet and were analyzed. There were four main theme areas that emerged from the data: introduction to outsourcing, acceptance of outsourcing, acclimation to outsourcing and relationship with co-workers and managers; current and former. Recommendations from this research study suggest that the human factor needs to be incorporated into the transition process. Human Resource individuals not only need to be at the forefront at the inception of the negotiation discussions but also involve legacy employees who have already migrated through the process.
