Abstract/Summary:
The series of four dissertation papers provide economic and empirical analyses for structured products. These papers make a detailed survey of the structured products markets, develop pricing models, and empirically examine the profits for issuing them. The results of the surveys suggest significant positive profits for the issuing financial institutions. These papers also describe the hedging strategies from the issuer point of view and also describe the selection of underlying securities. The results show that the dividend yields and ex-dividend dates play an important role in the profitability of the products. The underlying securities tend to have high dividend yield and large market capitalization. The structured products tend to mature soon after the ex-dividend dates of the underlying assets.
