| Nigeria is the most populous country in Africa and has been classified by the World Bank as a developing country since 1961. The purpose of this investigation was to explore factors that may have prevented Nigeria from attaining sustainable economic advancements from 1960 to 2005 to meet the standards set by the World Bank for a developed country status. Data collection and analysis for this qualitative case study were conducted with 200 Nigerian citizens through survey of an instrument, along with interviews, and a session with a focus group of experts. Secondary historical data were also examined. The data uncovered three major themes: (a) Nigerians are weary of the leadership in Nigeria, (b) Nigeria has a wrong approach to leadership, (c) Nigerians prefer military to civilian leadership. |
