Abstract/Summary:
The present study utilized an experimental design to partially replicate and extend the Booklet Comparability study found in Appendix C of the MMPI-2-RF Technical Manual (Tellegen & Ben-Porath, 2008). The aims of the current study were twofold. First, the present study partially replicated the original Booklet Comparability study by comparing the means, standard deviations, and scale correlations across test booklets. Second, the study extended the findings by investigating the impact of serial item position changes between the two booklets. The study relied on a non-clinical, student sample (N=92) who completed both the MMPI-2 and MMPI-2-RF assessments over an approximate one week interval. The mean difference of five scales (FBS-r, L-r, RC3, GIC, MSF) were found to be statistically significance when the significance level was not corrected for family-wise error. However, the average mean difference between the scales was 1.45 T-points indicating that the results reached statistical significance but did not reach clinical significance. Strong, positive correlations were found between MMPI-2-RF scales generated using the alternate booklets. Likewise, there was strong agreement at the item level despite the potential confounding effect of the altered serial item position. The results strengthen the empirical foundation for current and future research utilizing converted MMPI-2-RF data from non-clinical populations.
