Abstract/Summary:
We investigate the utility of a library of Young Stellar Object (YSO) models as a classification and survey tool in the study of star forming regions. We make an automated comparison of an object's IR photometric data with spectra derived from the YSO models. If there is a good match, the parameters of the model should also describe the object. We find that the concept is sound, however effective use of the library requires pre-selection of celestial objects as potential YSOs. We use two pre-selection techniques to select YSOs from objects in a suspected star forming region, and use the library to determine the properties of these YSOs, including mass, size, and approximate age. On this basis we deduce possible star forming scenarios for this region. We conclude by conducting a brief investigation of advanced pre-screening techniques for proper use of this tool.
