Abstract/Summary:
This J.S.D. dissertation examines the interaction between Canadian political finance regulation and the Canadian Charter of Rights and Freedoms. A comparative approach is used that draws upon developments in the United Kingdom and the United States to question and illuminate issues in the Canadian context. More broadly, however, this J.S.D. dissertation considers how Canadian courts approach constitutional review of laws governing the democratic process. The dissertation is comprised of an introductory chapter, three chapters that were previously published as law review articles, and a fourth chapter that has not yet been published.
