Abstract/Summary:
The aim of this quantitative study was to use a cross-sectional design method to examine the relationships that exist among marital satisfaction, perceived levels of equity, and education among married, African American couples in which both persons are educated with at least bachelor's degrees. Past research suggests that a great need exists for strength based research that involves African American couples (Marks, Hopkins, Chaney, Monroe, Nesteruk, & Sasser, 2008). The sample consisted of 46 couples (92 individuals).;Quantitative data were collected using a series of three measurement inventories: a demographic information sheet, Equity/Inequity Scale (Traupmann, Petersen, Utne, & Hatfield, 1981), and the Relationship Assessment Scale (Hendrick, 1988). Statistical analyses were conducted to measure correlation and predictability between education, equity, and marital satisfaction variables.
