Modeling and synthesizing growth hormone as a biological mechanism

Abstract/Summary:
Growth hormone deficiency has benefited immensely from the effective use of growth hormone replacement therapy. Recently the manufacture of recombinant human growth hormone (RHGH) has increased evaluation of the therapeutic value of growth hormone beyond the treatment of growth deficiency.;The goal of this research is to extend previous research and present a software and hardware realization of the complex feed-forward and feedback hypothalamic-pituitary growth hormone (GH) secretion mechanism based on a bio-mathematical nonlinear delay differential equation model developed by [2][4]. Accurate nonlinear delay bio-mathematical models changing over time present a unique challenge to the research community. The complex growth hormone mathematical model is solved utilizing Mathwork's Matlab. Verilog Hardware Descriptive Language (HDL) behavioral modeling is then implemented to simulate the antagonistic and stimulatory interaction of growth hormone, growth hormone releasing hormone (GHRH), Ghrelin, Insulin like growth factor (IGF) and somatotropin release-inhibiting factor (SRIF). The model is synthesized using CAD tools and is promulgated through a Xilinx XSA-50 FPGA chip. Displayed values of the concentrations of pulsatile GHRH, GH, Ghrelin, IGF and SRIF are output over time. The results accurately reflect comparable values generated in the mathematical model emulating the pulsatile characteristics of the complex GH axis.
