Abstract/Summary:
The purpose of this correlational study was to examine the effect of active versus passive treatment on the functional disability of patients with low back pain. The research hypotheses investigated to what extent the independent variable, amount of active versus passive physical therapy for low back pain, correlated with the dependent variable, patients' self-reported functional task disability. No statistically significant correlations existed between the research variables and the researcher failed to reject all null hypotheses. Recommendations for future research focus on adding symptom classification, improving attrition rates, and modifying the longitudinal design to match the professional standard for treatment of low back pain.
