The effect of film morphology on solar cell performance has been investigated in nanoparticle solution deposited Schottky junction CdTe solar cells. Grain growth was observed in the nanoparticle films after sintering at 400C in the presence of CdCl2. The growth in average grain size was initially very rapid, but ceased after 4 minutes. The variation in grain sizes increased with longer sintering time. The initial increase in average grain size was correlated with improvements in device performance, while the increase in the variation of grain sizes was correlated with decreasing device performance after 4 minutes of sintering. |
