Abstract/Summary:
We give an example in which the Glimm estimate for a strictly hyperbolic system of two conservation laws is violated. We also consider the p-system. Under the assumption that the initial data have small oscillation but not necessarily small total variation, we reproduce the Glimm-Lax type estimates with greater precision.
