Manufacturing servitization is gaining in popularity,and has become critical for manufacturing countries to sustain the momentum of the future development.It is also an important measure for the transformation and upgrading of China's manufacturing industry and the strategy of manufacturing power.Given the importance of manufacturing servitization as a catalyst to ensure economic prosperity,it is vital to develop a set of well-designed service strategies to direct the manufacturing enterprises in positive profits and business success.However,there is more and more evidence in practice that the performance results of manufacturing enterprise service strategy are far behind expectations.In the existing theoretical research,the concept and internal mechanism of manufacturing enterprise service strategy are ill-developed,and the performance test of service strategy is full of controversial conclusions,such as positive,negative,nonlinear and so on.,let alone the ignorance of how organizational structure influences the manufacturing servitization situation.In fact,organizational structure plays an important role in supporting and ensuring the successful implementation of service strategy.Therefore,this study focuses on the service strategy of manufacturing enterprises,the elements of organizational structure and their relationship with business performance,in order to solve the three problems existing in the theoretical research and promote the successful implementation of the service strategy of manufacturing enterprises in practice.First of all,by combing the literature on the theme of service strategy of manufacturing enterprises at home and abroad,this paper analyzes the difference between service strategy and similar concepts,and puts forward the concept of service strategy of manufacturing enterprises.This paper summarizes the different dimensions and types of existing manufacturing enterprise services,and identifies the most important service types-Services Supporting the Supplier's(SSPs)and Services Supporting the Clients' actions(SSCs).These two types of services and the existing related research in different disciplines more than 20 types of services were compared and analyzed.Combing the literature on the impact of manufacturing enterprise service strategy on performance,it is found that the existing empirical research is still in the exploratory stage;there are some problems,such as indistinguishable service characteristics,poor development of organizational structure elements and improper performance testing and so on.Secondly,three enterprises,Haier,Mino and Zhujiang Piano,are selected to carry out exploratory case studies to explore the characteristics of service business,organizational structure form and the relationship between performance and performance in different stages of the three enterprises.The initial theoretical propositions for three research problems are put forward.Thirdly,on the basis of resource-based view and contingency theory,and on the basis of theoretical analysis,literature review and case study,this paper puts forward the research hypotheses and theoretical model of the relationship between the two service types,the influence of the two service types on performance,and the adjustment of organizational structure elements.Finally,through empirical research methods,the relevant data of service strategy and organizational structure practice of manufacturing enterprises in China was collected,with the help of SPSS,AMOS and other statistical software the research hypothesis was tested.The conclusions are as follows:(1)the service strategy of manufacturing enterprise is the planning and positioning for service offering and its operation mode,which mainly includes SSPs and SSCs.SSPs is the starting point and foundation of SSCs.(2)SSCs has become a VRIN resource because of its high degree of customization and long-term and close relationship with customers,which has a positive impact on enterprise performance.SSPs cannot directly promote the performance of manufacturing enterprises because it is becoming more standardized.However,SSPs has an indirect impact on enterprise performance by promoting SSCs.(3)the service business organization structure of manufacturing enterprises mainly includes three elements: service business sectorization,decentralization and interfirm collaboration.The more independent the service business department is,the stronger the interfirm collaboration is,the greater the contribution of SSCs to enterprise performance will be.However,decentralization is affected by enterprise size and corporate culture soundness,and has no significant effect on performance contribution of SSCs.Based on the perspective of resource-based view,this study clarifies the relationship between service strategy and performance of manufacturing enterprises,promotes the focus of theory perspective,further explains the controversial conclusions of the existing research,and promotes the research to form a consensus.This paper deepens the understanding of the organizational structure of the service business of manufacturing enterprises,sums up the elements of the organizational structure,clarifies the controversy of the independence or integration of SSCs departments,and clarifies the important role of interfirm collaboration and the dual role of decentralization.This study comprehensively combs the related concepts of manufacturing enterprise service strategy and service type,and provides a clear concept and rich connotation for the research of manufacturing enterprise service strategy.It lays a foundation for further qualitative and quantitative research based on service strategy,such as strategy-structure alignment,environment-strategy alignment,performance measurement and so on.
