Ryukyu is an island country located in the Southeast Pacific Ocean of China.Since the early Ming Dynasty,Ryukyu was incorporated into the suzerain-vassal system of East Asia and became a vassal state of China. As the settlement of the first "36 surnames of Fujian people" immigrants,Kume Village,in the process of its formation and development, the Ryukyu Kingdom has granted various tax exemptions, official duties and education privileges.Kume Village has become the center of spreading Chinese traditional culture and advanced production technology to Ryukyu, while Kume villagers have become one of the most important envoys of spreading Chinese traditional culture and advanced production technology to Ryukyu. Therefore, the friendly exchanges between China and Ryukyu,as well as the political, economic, cultural and diplomatic development of the Ryukyu Kingdom, played an important role, made significant contributions and had a far-reaching impact. This paper is different from the previous studies which mostly discuss "36 surnames of Fujian" or "Kume villagers" as an isolated individual or confined to a certain historical period. For the first time,it is based on the whole process of the formation and development of Kume village. It comprehensively involves the establishment of the suzerain-vassal relationship between China and Ryukyu and the formation of Kume village, the relationship between China and Ryukyu with Kume villagers,“Satsuma's invasion” and “Supplementary Nationality” of Kume Village,Kume villagers in Ryukyu's foreign relations, the administrative management and cultural tradition of Kume Village, the Ryukyu Rehabilitation Movement and the decline of Kume Village,Kume's clan organizations and so on.The time clue of narration begins with the migration of the "36surnames of Fujian" in the early Ming Dynasty, and up to now the relatives of Kume's clan organizations go to Fujian to seek their roots and ancestors. The purpose of this paper is to make a multidimensional and holistic discussion on Kume Village in Ryukyu, comprehensively understand and grasp its development process, restore its true situation and complete appearance in history, and re-elaborate its historical influence and practical significance. At the same time,in connection with the study of individual topics,I strive to make some necessary analysis and textual research to remedy some historical facts thathave been neglected for a long time in the Ryukyu Kingdom and the relationship between China and Ryukyu.Based on the previous achievements of the academic circles and through a comprehensive and systematic study, this paper holds that the traditional Chinese culture with Fujian regional characteristics in the Ming and Qing Dynasties based on the background of the Maritime Silk Road, became an indispensable factor in the political, economic and cultural development and progress of Ryukyu at that time through a large-scale immigration from the East China Sea to the Ryukyu Kingdom. It has had a far-reaching historical impact. As the clan organizations of Kume village in Ryukyu is still active in the political, economic, cultural and educational aspects of Okinawa society,it has become an important force in Okinawa society, and obviously retains the customs and cultural traditions with Fujian regional characteristics, thus playing an inestimable role in promoting Chinese traditional culture overseas, especially in East Asia. Therefore, strengthening the ties with the clan organizations in Kume village in Ryukyu, and the friendly exchanges between Fujian and Okinawa,so that they can play a positive role in improving the development of Sino-Japanese relations. This has also become the role and influence of this paper, while seriously and objectively explaining the achievements of Kume villagers in Ryukyu,in order to highlight the Chinese concept of peace and make it a positive force in improving the development of Sino-Japanese relations.
