The fire and rescue team,as the main force of emergency rescue and the national team, bears the important duties of preventing and resolving major security risks and handling various types of emergencies, which bring severe challenges to the mental health of firefighters.Investigations in China and abroad have shown that under the influence of frequent handling of various emergencies, firefighters are a high-risk group of post-traumatic stress symptoms. However, most studies focus on the direct victims of various emergencies, but the research on the mechanism and countermeasures of post-traumatic stress symptoms of firefighters handling emergencies is seriously insufficient. At present, the research on the influencing factors of firefighters’ post-traumatic stress symptoms mainly focuses on the factors of traumatic events and social support, but there is a lack of research on the internal psychological factors of firefighters.Rarely see the management countermeasures of firefighters’ post-traumatic stress symptoms. This article is based on previous research and classic theories of post-traumatic stress symptoms, using research methods from questionnaires to laboratory experiments, and according to research ideas from risk factors to protective factors, around personality and emotional regulation strategies. This paper explores the psychological mechanism of the occurrence and adjustment of post-traumatic stress symptoms of firefighters one after another based on these factors, and proposes management countermeasures for post-traumatic stress symptoms of firefighters based on the results of this empirical study. The main contents of this article include:Firstly, based on the self-concealment work model and cognitive information processing theory, firefighters who handle emergencies directly were used as survey objects.Questionnaire surveys and structural equation models were used to investigate the the impact of personality trait of self-concealment,emotion regulation strategies of experiential avoidance and rumination on firefighters’ post-traumatic stress symptoms and its impact path, confirming that self-concealment,experiential avoidance and ruminationare risk factors for firefighters’ post-traumatic stress symptoms.Self-concealment affects firefighters’ post-traumatic stress symptoms both directly as well as indirectly by rumination and through the serial mediation of experiential avoidance and rumination.Secondly, based on Antonovsky’s salutogenic mode, firefighters who handle emergencies directly were used as survey objects.Questionnaire surveys and structural equation models were used to investigate the the impact of personality trait of coherence, positive coping strategy on firefighters’ post-traumatic stress symptoms and its impact path, confirming that coherence and positive coping strategies are protective factors for firefighters’ post-traumatic stress symptoms.Coherence affects firefighters’ post-traumatic stress symptoms both directly as well as indirectly by the mediation of positive coping strategy. In addition, the regression analysis method was used to examine the independent predictive effects of the above psychological risk factors and protective factors on firefighters’ post-traumatic stress symptoms.Thirdly, based on the emotional regulation process model, firefighters with severe post-traumatic stress symptoms after handling emergency were taken as the experimental subjects, and the combination of event-related potential experiments and behavioral experiments was used to investigate the post-traumatic stress symptoms firefighters.Investigated the effects of two emotional regulation strategies, which are positive reappraisal and detached reappraisal,on post-traumatic stress disorder firefighters in the face of negative picture stimulation. It is confirmed that positive reappraisal and detached reappraisal have a weakening effect on the negative emotions of post-traumatic stress disorder firefighters.Positive reappraisal has a stronger negative emotion-reducing effect than detached reappraisal.Fourthly, based on the emotional regulation process model, firefighters with severe post-traumatic stress symptoms after handling emergency were taken as the experimental subjects, and the combination of event-related potential experiments and behavioral experiments was used to investigate the post-traumatic stress disorder firefighters.Investigated the effects of two emotional regulation strategies, which are positive reappraisal and immersed reappraisal,on post-traumatic stress disorder firefighters in the face of positive picture stimulation. It is confirmed that positive reappraisal and immersedreappraisal have a strengthening effect on the positive emotions of post-traumatic stress disorder firefighters.Immersed reappraisal has a stronger positive emotional enhancement effect than positive reappraisal. Finally, combined with the results of the above empirical research, under the guidance of the population health management theory, seven management strategies for firefighters’ post-traumatic stress symptoms were proposed, including: optimizing the content of recruitment personality tests;carrying out active coping and de-stigmatization education;conduct special training on emotion regulation ability;strengthen mental health monitoring and service for firefighters who directly handle emergencies;carry out evidence-based group psychological intervention;remove obstacles to the treatment of psychological disorders;select and develop mobile applications for the treatment of post-traumatic stress disorder.
