This dissertation takes the retroflex /r/ of Kam-Tai language as its research object,exploring its origin,development and evolution,including its synchronic correspondence and diachronic evolution.Kam-Tai language is one of the largest language groups of Sino-Tibetan family,It is mainly distributed in Guangxi,Yunnan,Guizhou,Guangdong,Hainan,Hunan and Southeast Asia,and it is a multinational language family with a population of nearly 100 million.The phonetic correspondence of the basic roots of kinship languages is the most powerful evidence of their historical homology.It has always been the focus and difficulty in the theoretical construction and verification of the Kam-Tai family to seek the phonetic correspondence between the internal and external languages of the language family and to reveal their phonetic variation rules.Since the establishment of the Kam-Tai language for more than half a century,a number of scholars have made arduous explorations and made remarkable achievements in the phonetic system of Kam-Tai language either from a macro perspective,from a micro perspective,from a synchronic perspective or from a diachronic perspective.The retroflex /r/ remains an significant features of Zhuang language.It has been paid close attention to by researchers because of its variety and complicated phonetic evolution.The Kam-Tai family has a wide variety of languages and distinctive phonetic features.It is an indispensable sample to observe the commonness and diversity of human languages.Extending the retroflex /r/ to the whole Kam-Tai language for systematic investigation is an in-depth study and an indispensable link to seek a solution to the problem of phonetic history of the retroflex /r/.Based on the study of scholars such as Fang Kuei Li,Xing Gongwan,Yuan Jiahua,Liang Min,Zhang Junru and Luo Yongxian,this dissertation makes a further exploration of the retroflex /r/ in the Kam-Tai language from the microscopic perspective,synchronic and diachronic perspectives.Based on the materials obtained through field investigation and literature retrieval,this monographic study firstly describes the corresponding variants of the retroflex /r/ in the Kam-Tai language from the synchronic perspective,and sorts out the corresponding relationship of various sounds.Then,brings the historical comparison of the retroflex /r/ into the whole Kam-Tai language,and deeply discusses the phonetic evolution of the retroflex /r/,revealing the internal law of the phonetic evolution of the retroflex /r/ by using the methods of historical comparison and type analysis.During the study,this dissertation quotes the latest researches positively,and adopts methods such as combination of points and faces,synchronic and diachronic,description and interpretation to demonstrate and explain the characteristics of the retroflex /r/ and the laws of its development and evolution in the Kam-Tai language.The basic idea of this dissertation is to start with the retroflex /r/ of Zhuang language,and makes synchronic comparison of it first,which is based on the pedigree relationship of Kam-Tai language,and then carries on diachronic evolution analysis.This dissertation is divided into six chapters,the first chapter is the introduction,the second chapter is the synchronic study of the retroflex /r/ in the Kam-Tai language,the third chapter is the historical origin of the retroflex /r/ in the Kam-Tai language,the fourth chapter is the explanation of the historical evolution of the retroflex /r/ in the Kam-Tai language,the fifth chapter is the case study of the retroflex /r/ in the Kam-Tai language,and the sixth chapter is the conclusion and the prospect.The second,third and fourth chapters are the main parts of the dissertation.There are several distinctive features and innovations of this dissertation.Firstly,this dissertation takes a specific sound category as the perspective,uses the synchronic and diachronic methods to analyze and discuss the retroflex /r/,and explores the general sound evolution rule,so it has a unique perspective.Secondly,in this dissertation,the retroflex /r/ is included into the framework of the whole Kam-Tai language for research.On the one hand,the synchronic correspondence characteristics of the retroflex /r/ in the whole Kam-Tai language are expounded.On the other hand,it further explains the historical evolution of he retroflex /r/,and sums up the law of sound change,so the theory has a new breadth and depth.
