Vocabulary teaching has an important role in second language teaching courses around the world.In order to promote Chinese as a foreign language,this study has made a comprehensive analysis of the similarities and differences between Chinese and Arabic vocabulary following the existing research literature related to Chinese and Arabic vocabulary,and which is highly significant the scope and theory of the two languages.In this study,through the comparison of the vocabulary similarities and differences observed in the process of writing "Arabic-Chinese-Dictionary",the lexical meanings of the two languages of Chinese and Arabic are compared and analyzed.The study focused on Mauritanian students' errors/problems/mistakes related to learning Chinese vocabulary.The contrastive study of spoken vocabulary in both languages can help predict problems;explain Mauritanian students' difficulty in learning spoken vocabulary;and provide guidance to teachers to adopt effective and meaningful strategies while teaching Chinese language to(Mauritanian)Arabic-speaking students.In order to complete this work flawlessly,this study will answer three questions:(1)-What are the major similarities and differences between Chinese and Arabic vocabulary?(2)-What difficulties/problems do Mauritanian students face while learning Chinese vocabulary?(3)What are the errors in vocabulary produced by Mauritanian students due to their Arabic language background?Furthermore,for better understanding of the research work,the study is divided into Seven chapters.The first chapter introduces the research objectives,research significance,research content,research purpose,corpus source,theoretical guidance and research methods.The second chapter introduces the research background and related theories,summarizes the research status of Chinese vocabulary and Arabic vocabulary,and introduces the comparative analysis theory(i.e.Contrastive Analysis Theory ?????? ??????? ?????),lexical meanin equivalence theory(i.e.Semantic Equivalence Theory ?????)In order to promote the teaching of Chinese as a foreign language,this chapter also analyzes the results of research on Chinese and Arabic vocabulary,and comprehensively examines the similarities and differences between Chinese and Arabic vocabulary,and compares the research findings in the context of above said theories of the two languages.The third chapter makes a comparative study on the word formation of the two languages,mainly from the aspects of phonetic changes,additional methods,compound methods and the characteristics of foreign words in the two languages.this study suggests that in order to reduce the occurrence of errors/problems during the learning process of Chinese vocabulary,teachers should guide Arabic students to understand the Chinese word formation procedures.This technique will help students: to learn and analyze the morpheme relationships in Chinese words accurately;and support them to deeply understand the meanings of Chinese language words.In the fourth chapter,through the examination of "Arabic-Chinese Dictionary",the relationship between the meanings of Chinese and Arabic corresponding words.In the fifth chapter,will fucs on the differences between The foreign words of the two languages.In the sixth chapter,the types of lexical errors in the process of Chinese acquisition of Mauritanian students are discussed.In the process of Chinese learning in Mauritania,the confusion between word-meaning-correspondence and formal and non-formal vocabulary is the most common type of bias used by Mauritanian students in the use of Chinese words.We have also discuss the differences between spoken words and written vocabulary,This bias is caused by the objective reason that the meanings of Chinese and Arabic do not correspond exactly.For Chinese teachers,the main task of Chinese vocabulary teaching is to enable Mauritanian students to understand the characteristics of Chinese meanings and avoid the phenomenon of the negative transfer of Arabic words.The Seventh chapter,summarizes the research,pointing out the values,shortcomings and future recommendations.There are very few researches available in this area,so this work will be proved as a valuable addition to the literature and will provide reference of Chinese vocabulary learning for Mauritanian students,localization teaching materials and related translation work,and promote the healthy development of Chinese learning system.
