"V+P+XP_L"is one of the main construction networks in Mandarin for expressing factive Motion events. The paper takes four typical"V+P+XP_L"sub-constructions,including"V+wang(?)+XP_L","V+xiang(?)+XP_L","V+dao(?)+XP_L"and"V+zai(?)+XP_L"as the research object, and discusses their usage in expressing factive Motion events under the comprehensive guidance of construction grammar, cognitive semantics and cognitive grammar. The paper analyzes the constructional meaning of the four types of"V+P+XP_L"constructions,the types of events that can be expressed, the constraints on the variable components and their construal ways, and also investigates the generality and differences between them in the above four aspects. The statistics of the four types of"V+P+XP_L"constructions to express factive Motion events are quantitatively collected in the enclosed mandarin corpus, including both the number of access verbs, and the frequency of each access verb. With the support of these statistics, the paper demonstrates the typical access verbs of the four types of"V+P+XP_L"construction.The paper consists of three parts and eight chapters.Chapters 2 and 3 comprise Part One.Motion events are discussed in chapter 2.First,Motion events are divided into two basic subcategories:locative events and motion events. The three basic conceptual elements of a locative event are summarized as:1)Participant elements-being body;2)Spatial elements-reference frame(location),and;3)Mode elements–static and dynamic mode. The basic conceptual elements of a motion event are summarized as:1)Participant elements-moving body(moving subject and moving object)and causing body;2)Spatial elements-reference system(source, end, destination, orientation target, original location and new location),direction and path(strong-span and weak-span path),and;3)Dynamic elements-internal and external force.Factive motion events are divided into ordinary events and appearing/disappearing events, and factive locative events are divided into static events and dynamic events.Ordinary motion events are further divided into sustained strong-span events, instantaneous strong-span events and instantaneous weak-span events.Appearing/disappearing motion events are further divided into occurrence events and disappearing events.Chapter 3 systematically classifies four types of"V+P+XP_L"construction access verbs.First, pure state verbs and motion verbs are defined, and then access verbs are classified into corresponding categories as dictated by the core meaning of the verbs.Part Two includes chapters 4 to 7.Taking"V+wang(?)+XP_L","V+xiang(?)+XP_L","V+dao(?)+XP_L"and"V+zai(?)+XP_L"as the key outline, these four chapters respectively discuss their constructional meanings, their expressible event types and the constraints that exist on their variable components. It is found that"V+wang(?)+XP_L","V+xiang(?)+XP_L",and"V+dao(?)+XP_L"are monosyllabic constructions,while"V+zai(?)+XP_L"is a polysemic construction."V+wang(?)+XP_L"expresses that the object moves toward a distant destination and profiles the destination."V+xiang(?)+XP_L"expresses that the object moves toward an orientation target and profiles the direction."V+dao(?)+XP_L"expresses that the object moves in a path and reaches the final end and also profiles the final end."V+zai(?)+XP_L"expresses first that the object is located at a certain position in a static or dynamic manner, then that the position of the object changes and profiles the new position of the object. In addition, through the in-depth analysis of the core meaning of the access verb and construction meaning,it is also proved that four types of"V+P+XP_L"constructions endow the displacement meaning which originally provided by the verb to the construction itself after long-term use. After first defining the construction meaning of the four types of"V+P+XP_L"construction,the event types they can express are then investigated in combination with the factive Motion event types divided in chapter 2.When discussing the restrictions of the four types of"V+P+XP_L"constructions on the variable components,it not only summarizes the requirements of the four constructions on variable components, but also explains the access conditions of various verbs in combination with the research outlined in chapter 3.Part Three consists of chapter 8.Chapter 8 is a comparative study based on the previous chapters.First, the construal way reflected by the four types of"V+P+XP_L"constructions are analyzed, including the way of scanning, base and profile.Second,it compares the event types that the four types of"V+P+XP_L"constructions express, and then explains the differences of the event types that are expressed by them with a construal analysis. Finally, the paper summarizes the constraints of the four types of"V+P+XP_L"constructions on the variable components, and points out the significance of this research on the statistics of frequency of access verbs in TCSL.
