Characterization And Application Of Chinese Character Writing Based On WDL

Chinese character,one of oldest texts in the world,the carrier and the foundation of Chinese culture,plays an important role in disseminating and inheriting Chinese culture.Chinese people have attached great importance to handwriting and developed calligraphy art for a long time,but,Chinese handwriting is getting worse during recent decades.As a basic and essential literacy of Chinese people,Chinese handwriting is drawn renewed attention from educational administrators and researchers.The paper attempts to study the computer-based representation methods of Chinese handwriting,including the three-level representation of Chinese characters--strokes,component and the whole character,the representation of intersection,connection,adjacency among strokes,and the procedural representation of stroke orders and handwriting rhythms.The major issues to be addressed in this paper are shown as follows:Firstly,Chinese Writing Description Language(WDL)system is constructed and the three-level structure--object,relationship and procedure is identified.Secondly,the study focuses on the recording and representing of strokes.Recording method of strokes tracking is discussed.Accordingly,stroke segment extracting method is discussed.Further,stroke-segment-consequence-based stroke direction identification method is designed.Then,a practical case is provided.Thirdly,the paper focuses on describing methods of the topological structure of intersection,connection,adjacency among strokes.On this base,representing method of relative positions among strokes and the describing method of the length of strokes are designed,and the judging method of Alignment is identified.So far,the study has finished in constructing a representation model to identify the correctness of a Chinese character.Fourthly,base on the analysis of the structures of Chinese characters,this paper improves the representation methods from strokes,components to whole characters.Furthermore,neatness identification model is designed and proves to be reliable.Fifthly,stroke-order projection model is put forward to illustrate the various forms of continued writing.So far,the study has completed a method in identifying the correctness of the stroke order of a Chinese character.Lastly,the paper focuses on the representing the writing rhythm.A speed-time points tracking model is designed to mark and record the writing speed at the starting,during and at the closing.Also,a standard basic-stroke rhythm is constructed.Accordingly,a writing rhythm evaluation method is put forward and applied in practice.
