T.S.Eliot(1888-1965)is an "enactive" classic that defines and transcends thresholds. The elucidation of Eliot's ideas and works should not merely stay on the level of simple "annotation and interpretation".Instead,it should be associated with the issues on new life, and integrated into more open and advanced contexts as well as contexts of other heterogeneous disciplines and ideological spheres,in order to explore a kind of liberal "conversation" and "resonance".Moreover,it is also the original intention of this dissertation that places the study of Eliot under the horizon intersected by literature, philosophy and cognitive neuroscience to research the healing function of his poetries. In this paper,"body" was taken as the logical starting point to achieve the fundamental aim of healing via the "enactive" path.On the basis of the structure constructed by the logical relation of three stages(embodiment-extension-enactment)of the "enactive approach" in cognitive science,a comprehensive study was conducted on the healing function reflected in Eliot' poetics thoughts and poetic creation centering on three visual angles-patient,diagnostician and therapist of civilization.Enactive philosophy examines literary function from the perspective of pragmatics;cognitive neuroscience examines human's cognitive factors from the perspective of neurophysiology;and enactive criticism renovates literary appreciation and criticism from the dimension of boy in literary reception. With different emphases, the three above develop interaction, complementation and circulation, and become the best research tool for poetic healing function. The relationship between literature and health was expounded and verified by combining the tool with Eliot's poetic thoughts and creative practices.Apart from introduction and conclusion, this paper includes three parts of contents. The "embodiment" of Eliot's poetic language and the material base for poetic language producing healing function were discussed in the first section. It can be seen that the "embodied" consciousness blending emotions and thoughts that Eliot acquired from experience of individual sickness brings poetic language into the dimension of human experience. The second section discussed extended circumstances that generate the healing of poetic language.Eliot paid close attention to physiological, mental and culture circumstances where bodies are located, accurately captured the research frontier of neurosciences in terms of consciousness and cognitive style, and enhanced the accuracy of poetries in interpreting human mental diseases. In addition, the third section analyzed the third factor of the"enactive approach"-enactment-from three perspectives:sound, form and meaning.Eliot attained mutual connection and matching of fragments, and created "the aggregates without a self" with the same outside and inside that has dismantled ego by simulating the structure of nerve physiology, breaking perceptive thresholds and generating symbolic Mandala,as well as developing subject domain. It is concluded that modernistic poetries represented by Eliot's works explain the relationship between literature and health and update the mode and significance of health, and simultaneously optimize and reform the modernity of the traditional poetical healing theory, endowing poetries the new social responsibility and humanistic value.
