Research On Khmer Consonant Consonants

This paper takes Khmer consonant clusters as major study subject,aims to explore the origin,evolution and features of consonant clusters as well as the connections between consonant clusters and syllables.The study might cover other language branches of Mon-Khmer Branch which includes the type of Khmer consonant clusters,blending rules,acoustic features,the connections between different branch-based consonant clusters within a same phylum.Khmer is the official language of the kingdom of Cambodia in Southeast Asia.It is one of the most important languages in Mon-Khmer of Austroasiatic language.Besides,it considerably influences languages of the whole East Asia.However,there is no highly active linguistic researches upon Khmer Language in China.A systematic research of Khmer could be creating outstanding academic values for East Asian Language researching,such as language historical comparisons,language contact,natural evolutions and type transformations and so on.This paper takes abundant field investigations as foundation,majorly investigates Khmer consonant clusters.The phonetics of Khmer will be revealed through a description of Khmer phonetic system.In addition,recent outcomes based on western phonetics theories will be borrowed and applied in experiments for the investigations of the blending rules,evolution modes,evolution stimulations and speed of Khmer consonant clusters.Which in turns amplifies the investigations of Mon-Khmer consonant clusters with a clear outline of its evolution and a better conclusion of the general regulation of its generation and evolution.This paper will be detailed in investigating the classifications,descriptions and analysis the consonant clusters through four dimensions:place of articulation,ways of articulation,phonetion types and airstream mechanism.A discussion of the connections between consonant clusters and syllables will be made by going through a great number of case studies,further investigates the connections between consonant clusters variations and phonetics contexts.The author believes that Khmer is consists of monosyllables,its consonant clusters were cracked into disyllables.As the evolution of the language,disyllables might be divided into a Semi-Syllable and consonant clusters,which is the process of monosyllablization.Consonant clusters were generated in the downsizing of syllables,simplification is the general trend of consonant clusters’evolution.Besides,the simplification of consonant cluster Cr is the major reason of pitch variations of Khmer Language.The paper is chaptered in five,main ideas of each chapter are previewed as follows:Chapter 1 is introduction which introduces the study subject,research values,missions,visions and applied theories.Chapter2 reveals the phonetics features of Khmer through the learning of consonants,vowels,syllable structures,phonetics rules and so on.Takes Phnom Penh dialect as example,chapter3 investigates how the simplification of consonant cluster Cr influences phonemes by classifying consonant clusters as well as analyzing the phonetics features,origin,evolution and division of consonant clusters.A number of consonant cluster related questions will be discussed in chapter4.In chapter5,the author will be concluding the main ideas over the whole paper and indicating things need to be improved for better future research.
